Barnabas MamQuote Barnabas' story

Eugenio Berruezo ministered in the north of Spain for more than 20 years, and saw only a handful of people come to Christ.  If one person in a year was baptized, there would be great rejoicing.  Pepe Miranda ministered in the south of Spain with similar results.  But one day a few years ago these two men, who had been seminary classmates years ago, met to renew once again the dream they had in their youth.  Together they wondered if they might be more effective in reaching the next generation of young people with a refreshing, contemporary approach to church.  What would it look like if a local church in Spain focused on relational evangelism through small groups where people could share their lives with each other?  What would it look like if they worshipped God using dynamic music and deeply challenging messages with real-life application?

Most churches in Spain are faithfully following the Lord, but don’t really have an idea of how to connect with the next generation.  Eugenio and Pepe prayed, “Lord, show us a model that can help us in our desire to see Spain reached for Christ.”  At the same time Eugenio and Pepe were praying, God was birthing a church in Atlanta, Georgia, with the same vision for their city.  North Point Community Church was formed with the vision to “Lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ” by providing environments that will attract the next generation to the Lord.

When the missions arm of North Point heard of the missions desire of Eugenio and Pepe, a relationship was formed.  Now, a few years later, two very dynamic churches have been formed in Vilanova and Seville, Spain.  Every week new people are showing up in these churches.  Every week, new ways of sharing the Gospel are explored.  Every week, the dream that started 20 years ago is becoming more and more of a reality.  Eugenio and Pepe, like their AFCI counterparts around the world, are committed to the development of innovative new strategies to reach their nation for Christ.  Today, this contemporary church model and church partnership is being successfully replicated in other AFCI nations in Europe as well.
