AFCI Peru |
AFCI Peru is part of the Americas Region.
Even though the AFCI Peru team was only formed in February 2007, the ministry in Peru is already advancing along many fronts.
The first is the development of partnerships between local churches in Peru and local churches in the United States, Canada, and Spain.
Second, AFCI has focused on training pastors and church leaders who often lack formal theological education. In 2006, AFCI sponsored two pastors’ conferences to train 165 pastors, a seminar to train 201 Sunday school teachers, and a conference on prayer. These interdenominational events, co-sponsored by the local pastors associations, have the added bonus of drawing together the community’s evangelical churches.
Third, a few social projects (digging of wells, a school for children, and a lumber mill) have been established to meet the needs of some of the poorer communities while showing the church’s concern for their physical as well as spiritual needs.
Peru is in western South America, bordering the South Pacific Ocean, between Chile and Ecuador. Roman Catholics account for 81% of the population. There is a wide-open door to evangelical churches, especially those who express a true concern for the welfare of the people. Peru has a varied geography - an arid coastal region, the Andes further inland, and tropical lands bordering Colombia and Brazil. Abundant mineral resources are found in the mountainous areas, and Peru’s coastal waters provide excellent fishing grounds.
