Barnabas MamQuote Barnabas' story

Nagi does not really know how old he is, because they did not record this kind of information when he was born. But he does know that when he was a young boy of less than 12, he was kidnapped in his village and taken to another place far from home to work as a slave – a houseboy for men who trade in humans like most people trade in vegetables. As he became adjusted to his new environment, they started taking him to town. He learned the route, and when the opportunity was just right, he ran away. Even as a young boy, he eventually found his way back home. He had been missing for over 9 months when he was finally reunited with his family.

Only a few days after his return home, he went to town and met a missionary. This missionary told him about Jesus, and Nagi was united with Christ. He gave himself fully to the Lord at a young age and began to study diligently his new found faith. His relatives worshiped many gods, but he was learning about the one true God. While in his early 20’s, the missionary who discipled Nagi sent him to Egypt to study at the only Bible school available in this region of Africa. He came back home, trained and ready to work as an evangelist to his own people.

Through 30 years of civil war, Nagi faithfully trained men to go out and preach the Gospel, just as he was also doing. Some of those he trained gave their lives in service to the Lord. One was crucified and left for dead. Over time, Nagi became known as one of the founding fathers of the modern day church in his nation. He is still faithfully serving the Lord today in a very humble way, sharing the life-giving message that God loves and cares for each one of his countrymen. He is a saintly man, part of the wider AFCI ministry team, and a testimony to us all of one who has sacrificed much in the service of Christ.
